Naoussa today

Contemporary Naoussa, the second largest Municipality of the Prefecture of Emathia, has merged administratively with the former communities of Arkochori, Giannakochori, Rhodochori and Stenimachos and now comprises the newly extended Municipality of Naoussa, with a population reaching 23,000 residents.

The town's post-war development, during the second half of the 20th century, depending mainly on the dynamism of the people of Naoussa, took place steadily by steps. New dynamic agricultural crops and industrial units were set up next to older ones or in their place. New social facilities were created next to the already existing ones -mainly thanks to donations by the people of Naoussa- to serve the needs of the townspeople. New roads were forged, the greater percentage of homes was replaced, and the rich forest resources of Vermio were utilized and have passed to the Municipality of Naoussa which today is the largest forest-owning municipality in the country.

Both old and new coexist in the Naoussa of today. Next to the old mansions or the smaller houses one also encounters modern structures, even if not as pretty. Under the age-long plane trees at the squares and crossroads, fountains of old and new cool passers-by with their ice-cold water. Near the old cobblestone roads, modern walkways facilitate market traffic.
