The trade in Naoussa

Internal trade

In the commercial enterprises of the region are included retail and wholesale sale shops and enterprises of services supply.

Because of the economic growth in the past, - which is believed to be recovered only through completed interventions - the trade has been organized according to models of big cities (Athens, Thessaloniki etc). In other words, the shops of wholesale sale, the delegations and the Super Markets (wholesale-retail sale) were increased and provided various facilities in the dealing (low prices, doses etc). For this reason, the dependence of the region from the Thessaloniki has been decreased considerably in the trade.

Exterior trade

Generally the Prefecture Imathia used to be and still remains one of the main export and commercial centers towards the countries of European Union and the countries of former Eastern Europe.

The products that are exported from the prefecture and the region of Naoussa are mainly what are produced there. Thus, the vegetables (peaches, nectarines, pears, apples, asparaguses) and the remade fruits (compotes of fruits) along with the textile manufacturing products (longhaired rugs, blankets, threads) and the wines, constitute the main exported products of the region.

However it should be noted that big quantities of agricultural products which are not produced in the region, are processed here and in the bigger degree are exported from local enterprises, with the most main examples the oranges and lemons.

After the imposition of embargo in the Former Republic of Macedonia some years ago, the competitors to our country, specifically in the frail products of primary sector of production developed the comparative advantage of their small distance from the markets of Western Europe and as a result many markets were lost not only for the enterprises of the region but also for the whole country in general.

At the same time, some other parameters it did not make it possible for the Greek products to infiltrate satisfactorily in the markets of the Former Soviet Union countries and Balkans.
